Lavender Tablescape

My last tablescape was ispired by The lavender fairy, created by Cicely Mary Barker
She was born in 1895 in Croydon (South London) and spent most of her life there. Because of ill-health she was educated at home. She believed in recreating the beauty of nature in art and in drawing from life.
Her first work, a set of postcards, was published at the age of sixteens.
The Flower Fairies  watercolours (first published in 1923) offer a glimpse into Romantic Age. They are romantic image that ispired childhood and playfulness. Looking at them we can truly consider that beyond natural world there is another, invisible, where fairies live.

Here my table decorations...

Ecco alcune idee per la tavola...

The Song of the Lavender Fairy

"Lavender's blue, diddle diddle" —
So goes the song;
All round her bush, diddle diddle,
Butterflies throng;
(They love her well, diddle diddle,
So do the bees;)
While she herself, diddle diddle,
Sways in the breeze!

"Lavender's blue, diddle diddle,
Lavender's green";
She'll scent the clothes, diddle diddle,
Put away clean —
Clean from the wash, diddle diddle,
Hanky and sheet;
Lavender's spikes, diddle diddle,
Make them all sweet!
(from the Complete book of the Flower fairies, Cicely Mary Barker,
Frederick Warne & Co, 1997)

La canzone della Fata Lavanda

"Blu Lavanda, blu Lavanda, dilla-della"
racconta il ritornello,
tutto intorno al suo cespuglio, dilla-della,
vengono le farfalle,
(la amano talmente,dilla-della,
e anche le api gialle),
mentre lei, mentre lei dilla della,
nel fresco vento oscilla!

"Blu Lavanda, blu Lavanda, dilla-della,
o verde di Lavanda”
profumo di vestiti, dilla della,
che il buon bucato manda,
il bianco fazzoletto, dilla-della
o il lenzuolo grande,
prendono dai suoi fiori, dilla-della
profumo di Lavanda!
