E da tanto che non scrivo su questo blog! Devo dire che un po' mi mancava. Per il mio ritorno ho scelto un adorabile Mr Pickwick in onore di Dickens e del Natale che tra poco arriva.

Che ne dite? E' un piccolo acquisto fatto a Hell's Kitchen, uno dei mercatini delle pulci di New York. A me piace tantissimo!!

Il Circolo Pickwick, primo romanzo dello scrittore inglese Charles Dickens è considerato uno dei capolavori della letteratura britannica. 

Il romanzo fu pubblicato a fascicoli in 19 puntate distribuite in 20 mesi. All'epoca era molto in voga questo tipo di pubblicazione. Ogni uscita era una sorta di evento atteso da chi poteva permettersi l'acquisto o da chi lo leggeva in prestito.

Il Circolo di Picwick è un romanzo ironico e umoristico, un ritratto eccentrico e nostalgico di un'Inghilterra più umana che diverrà più drammatica e cinica nei romanzi successivi. Nel romanzo la serie innumerevole di personaggi sono tratti dalla folla londinese e dalle country houses della borghesia.

L'ultimo fascicolo fu di doppia lunghezza e costò due scellini. In lutto per sua cognata, Mary Hogarth, Dickens mancò il numero del maggio 1837. I fascicoli venivano solitamente pubblicati alla fine del mese.

I bought the arrows wall decor last year at Maison du Monde shop. It is inspired to the North Atlantic coast ...

In questo momento vorrei seguire queste frecce e dirigermi verso una spiaggia selvaggia della Normandia o della Bretagna..che ne dite ..non è un bel pensiero?:) 

La decorazione a parete con le frecce è stata comprata qualche tempo fa da Maison du Monde e si ispira alla costa atlantica al nord della Francia…

Here is a small corner of a beach house. The furniture and lamp are bought at Ikea shop, accessories at Maison du Monde shop and the mirror is handmade from recycled materials. The base was a piece of a old cupboard, the sticks, pebbles and shells were gathered on the beach and finally …a small fish decoration embellishes the frame!

A summer air of a porch in a garden is perfect to have a time to relax! :)

Quello che vi mostro è un piccolo angolo di una casa al mare. Gli arredi e la lampada sono Ikea, gli accessori  Maison du Monde e lo specchio è realizzato a mano con materiali da riciclo. La base era una vecchia anta di una credenza, i legnetti, sassolini e conchiglie sono stati raccolti sulla spiaggia ed infine un piccolo pesciolino decorativo  abbellisce la cornice. 

L’aria estiva di un portico in un giardino è perfetta per concedersi momenti creativi in pieno relax!:)

Here my first post of 2016! It is a  little Christmas gift designed and handmade for a person who loves horses.

Materials: a horse cloth, a red ribbon squares, a piece of felt brown or black for the eye and the  green felt cut with the big shot machine. How about it? The person who received this gift has appreciated it very much! :)

Questo è il mio primo post del 2016! E' un piccolo dono di Natale pensato e realizzato per una persona che ama i cavalli.

Materiali: una forma di cavallo si stoffa, un nastro rosso a quadretti, un pezzo di pannolenci marrone o nero per l'occhio e del di panno lenci verde e ritagliato con la big shot.  Che ne dite? La persona che l'ha ricevuto l'ha apprezzato molto!:)

Due semplici ghirlande per dare il benvenuto alla primavera!! 

La prima con corona di viticcio, piccoli fiori e oggetti in legno per questo fuori porta...

The second I made with wool, small felt lowers, vintage roses and a 'friendly' fairy fabric ...

La seconda l'ho realizzata con un nastro di lana, piccoli fiorellini in feltro, alcune roselline vintage, una simpatica fatina in tessuto, un nastro da riciclo e tanta voglia di creare qualcosa con le mie mani!:)

From John Martin's Big Book, Volume1, 1930.

John Martin's Book was a children's magazine aimed at five- to eight-year-olds with stories, illustrations, and puzzles. The magazine was publisched from 1912 to 1933. John Martin's House also published a series of hardcover John Martin's Big Books reprinting material from the magazine.

John Martin was the pseudonym of Morgan van Roorbach Shepard (1865–1947). He was born in Brooklyn, New York but raised on a plantation in Maryland and took his name from the colony of martins that lived there. 

John Martin's book era una rivista per bambini dai cinque agli otto anni con storie, illustrazioni e puzzle pubblicata dal 1912 al 1933. Nelle edizioni dei John Martin's Big Book furono pubblicate molte ristampe della rivista. 

John Martin era lo pseudonimo di Morgan van Roorbach Shepard (1865-1947). Nacque a New York, visse in una piantagione nel Maryland e diede il nome alla sua rivista ispirandosi ad una colonia di uccelli che vivevano lì.

The materials I used are: a crown of vine, a decorative branch with small pomegranates, a decorative wooden squirrel, raffia, small 'Welcome' chestnuts and autumn decorations ...

I materiali che ho utilizzato sono: una corona di viticcio, un ramo decorativo con piccoli melograni, una decorazione in legno con scoiattolo di 'Benvenuto', rafia, castagne e piccole decorazioni autunnali...

inspired me for this afternoon tea.

Jane Austen aveva il compito di preparare la colazione per la famiglia tutte le mattine, compreso la parte più importante: il tè.

The inkpot was a gift for my degree and a cammeo is my precious  handmade jewel dedicated to Jane Austen

I love the Tea set for its shape and colors that expresses 

simplicity and elegance at the same time!

Adoro questo servizio da tè. Proviene da un mercatino dell'antiquaritato, è in porcellana Bavaria. Lo trovo semplice ed elegante nello stesso tempo!

I've bought the yellow figurine at Portobello Market many years ago. 

It made me think Jane ad her fashion dress!

"My Dear Cassandra"  

Letters to her sister selected and introduced

The book "My Dear Cassandra", contains most of the surviving letters from Jane Austen to her sister Cassandra. The letters are all written between 1796 and Jane's death in 1817 and contain a wealth of information about their lives at that time. The book has illustrations and paintings depicting the fashion, transport, people and places. 

The monk

While I was writing a post about Scotland abbeys, I thought at a monk quite situated on a shelf in my basement room.

Then I decide to take this photos...

The monk is wood carved and I've bought it some years ago in Alto Adige.

This woodcarving tradition, started in Val Gardena in XVII century, is still alive. First wood sculptors began producing utensils for daily use but from XVIII century they produced also religious wood sculptures and figurines of animals and secular characters and wood handicraft become the most important economic activity in the valley.

The book on the bookstand is entirely written in latin date back 1927.

These books came from an ancient church. They are book for prayer date back about 1700!

The church is a gift received from a spanish women when I visited her country region in Spain. It is a resin copy of Santa Cecilia de Aguilar, a romanic church built in XIII and situated in a dominant position in the Palencia province. The date of its construction, 1041, appeared on a now-disappeared tombstone. Until the mid-13th century it was the main church of the early town of Aguilar. The current building can be dated in the closing years of the 12th century and early 13th century.

Monks spent half their lives putting themselves through pain and discomfort that they could easily avoid, and the other half muttering meaningless mumbo jumbo in empty churches at all hours of the day and night. They deliberately shunned anything good - girls, sports, feasting and family life.”
