Robert Burns Night 2015

Robert Burns (Alloway, 25 gennaio 1759 – Dumfries, 21 luglio 1796) was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. Every year, on 25 of January, at Burns's birthday, people celebrate his life and work with a Burn dinner completely dedicated to the Scottish national Bard!.

Even if I'm italian, I love celebrate this great artist creating my personal tablescape for the event!:)

Robert Burns (Alloway, 25 gennaio 1759 – Dumfries, 21 luglio 1796) è considerato come il poeta nazionale della Scozia. Ogni anno nel giorno della sua nascita, il 25 gennaio, viene organizzata una cena interamente dedicata alla sua  vita e alle sue opere. 

Trovo veramente bella l'idea di unire cultura e divertimento per una serata in compagnia e mi piace creare una mio personale allestimento della tavola. 

Quest'anno la mise en place e decisamente dai toni e colori scozzesi! Spero vi piaccia...)

Tam o' Shanter is a wonderful epic poem written in 1790. Burns paints a vivid picture of the drinking classes in the old Scotch town of Ayr in the late 18th century. It is populated by several unforgettable characters with humour, pathos, horror and social comment.

Tam o 'Shanter è un lungo poema epico scritto nel 1790. Burns dipinge un quadro vivido della vecchia città scozzese di Ayr nel tardo 18 ° secolo. La storia è popolata da vari personaggi descritti con umorismo, pathos e  horror. 

Una curiosità: il tradizionale scozzese copricapo scozzese prende il nome proprio dal personaggio Tam o'Shanter!.

Burns Night is annually celebrated in Scotland on January 25. It commemorates the life of Robert Burns, the scottish bard who was born on January 25, 1759. The day also celebrates Burns' contribution to Scottish culture. Burns' best known work is "Auld Lang Syne".

La Burns Night è celebrata ogni anno in Scozia il 25 gennaio. Si commemora la vita del poeta Robert Burns, che è nato in questo giorno nel 1759. La giornata celebra il contributo di Burns 'alla cultura scozzese. La sua opera più famosa è "Auld Lang Syne".

Robert Burns (January 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796) was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely considered the national poet of Scotland. Burns is also regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement and after his death, he became an important source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and a light Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these his political or civil commentary is often at its bluntest.
He is a cultural icon in Scotland and and also among Scots in other parts of the world. He has been a major influence on Scottish music and many of his songs are the ones most commonly cited when describing Scottish music.

Nel ricorrenza della sua nascita, il 25 gennaio la cosidetta Burns Night segna il culmine delle festività invernali scozzesi ed è un grande momento di aggregazione e celebrazione.

Robert Burns (25 gennaio 1759 - 21 luglio 1796), poeta e paroliere è considerato il poeta nazionale della Scozia. Burns fu pioniere del movimento romantico. Dopo la sua morte, le opere divennero un'importante fonte di ispirazione per i movimenti liberali e socialisti. Burns è tutt'oggi un'icona culturale per la Scozia anche per la sua grande influenza sulla musica scozzese.

To decorate the table I've used a little souvenir bought at souvenir shop in Scotland. It represents five Scottish heroes, symbols of culture, power and courage.

Per adornare la tavola ho impiegato un piccolo souvenir acquistato in negozio di souvenirs in Scozia. Rappresenta cinque eroi Scozzesi, simboli di cultura, potere e coraggio.
