Carolers and tea cosy!

The tradition of carolers dates back to Boys of the star and is derived from medieval dramas on the Magi originated in the fourteenth century and spread from the sixteenth century.

In northern European countries young people  walking about with a movable star on a rod and often wearing crowns and dressed in clothes to resemble the three Magi.

The tradition was probably originated between groups of pupils during the fourteenth century. The first news on the imitation of the procession of the Magi are a legend described by  monk called John of Hildesheim.

The tradition was maintained until the nineteenth century. From the sixteenth century the boys went to houses to sing Christmas carols or hold a small representation in exchange for money and hospitality.

La tradizione dei cantori di Natale molto probabilmente risale a quella dei Ragazzi della stella e deriva dai drammi medievali sui Re Magi e che ha avuto origine nel XIV secolo per poi diffondersi a partire dal XVI secolo.

Nei paesi nord europei i giovani sfilavano vestita da Re Magi seguendo una stella fissata in cima ad un palo. La tradizione nacque probabilmente tra gruppi di scolari nel corso del XIV secolo. Le prime notizie sull'imitazione del corteo dei Magi sono fornite da una leggenda tramandata dal monaco Giovanni di Hildesheim. 

La tradizione si mantenne fino al XIX secolo. A partire dal XVI sec. i Ragazzi della Stella andavano per le case a cantare canti di Natale o a tenere una piccola rappresentazione in cambio di ospitalità e soldi.
